Eyes? Uncle John's? Terrapin? He's Gone? Dark Star?

UJB and Dark Star were done rarely but to nice effect (see 3/9/81 for EstPr>UJB)

Today I am going to say it is He's Gone for me. 12/12/80 provides a stellar example of why this works for me. A frenetic EstPr with termendous Jerry soloing just melts away into a very pretty HG. I have to run so cannot copy link into post- Dont miss the eyes that flies out of the HG- whoah what a second set

I've always liked most Estimated->Eyes. One in particular is the Help->Slip->Frank->Estimated->Eyes from 7-14-84 at the Greek.

But my favorite Estimated segue is the Estimated->Wheel->Drumz from Long Beach 12-14-80.

Apparently I'm the only fan of Estimated He's Gone. A perfect fit I think. THAT's a transition. Estimated > Eyes is almost always Eyes just starting up, rarely a transition between them.Just because they don't pause between the two songs does not make it a transition to me.

You mean besides me, Johnny? I pick the Estimated > Combo as my favorite with Estimated>Terrapin second. Pasy 1976 I am just not a big fan of eyes.

wow I thought it was just me. I like Eyes but not as much after 78. Personally I think it's one of their most over rated songs. I DO like it but people make it out like it's this pinnacle of jamming and it's really not, the jams are oftne pretty standard and predicable imo. Of course I'm not one of those where it HAS to be jamming or HAS to be second set stuff only, I enjoy their songs. I'm just saying It's not in my top five.

Nor mine- that is for sure- I would much rather hear a terrapin or He's gone or UJB coming out of estimated. It is always good to know you are not the only one

: )

Estimated>Darkstar RFK Summer 1991: http://www.archive.org/details/gd1991-06-14.sennME80.wklitz.94371.flac16.

We were in the mezzanine. About 5 notes into Estimated, no one believed me when I told them that they where set to play Dark Star next. I remember vividly, this guy in front of me with his thick Boston tone turned to me and said, "No way, they're not gonna play Dark Star". We all went nuts when it broke. It was the heavy sound of the opening that gave it away for me. The tone of the "wamp wamp a wamp wamp" was thick and sticky. Someone had desribed it to me earlier in the tour and it seemed to fit or it was just plain ol' dumb luck!

Best one I saw was the Estimated> Terrapin from 9/8/90.

Perfect selection Liam. I'll make that my top pick as well. An outstanding 1980 show. Falls apart just a touch after drums, but the rest is very strong.

I'm mad for the Estimated/He's Gone on DP29. The bass.... the bass.... (5-21-77)

Just the other day I was talking about how for some reason I detest the Estimated>He's Gone tandem. I have to be in just the right mood for He's Gone anyway, I'm not a huge fan of the song most of the time. Plus, I'm a lifelong Est>Eyes guy, to me, going into He's Gone is like a waste of a good Eyes, kinda like how I feel that a standalone Franklin's is a waste of a good Slipknot!. The local GD cover band does that a lot, they're fond of Stranger>Franklin's, which always bugs me cause it's a waste of a good help>slip. Anyway, point is I'm an Estimated>Eyes guy.

I kind of like the Estimated/Eyes combos, particularly DP #15.

Eyes after Estimated just seems so perfect. Never listened to the Estimated>He's Gone>Eyes referenced above. Perhaps it is time.

12/12/80 & 12/14/80 are both good examples of Estimated segues....that month seemed to see an upsurge in show energy after the rather tame ones in October '80.

I can't think of a favorite segue - but here's a unique one - Estimated>He's Gone on 6/7/77....I can hear Jim F gagging now - but this one's unusual - Jerry keeps his Estimated tone on through the beginning of He's Gone - it gives it a really nice feel, makes me wonder why he didn't do that more often. The He's Gone outro jam is unusual as well:
